Community guidelines
The chatroom and comments are for curious people sharing ideas. Our rule of thumb: be the kind of reader you would want to talk to. These guidelines apply to every comment and chatroom message, and form part of our terms of service.
Please do
- Stay on friendly ground, and disagree with ideas rather than people.
- Keep it relevant: questions, corrections and good additions to an explainer are welcome.
- Correct mistakes politely. If we got something wrong, tell us through the contact page too.
- Remember that the chatroom is public, and anyone can read what you write.
Please do not
- Harass, bully, threaten or insult anyone, or post hate speech or discrimination of any kind.
- Post sexual or graphic content, or anything that is illegal or encourages harm.
- Share anyone’s private information (yours or others’), such as addresses, phone numbers or private messages.
- Spam, advertise, post repetitive messages or link to scams, malware or unrelated promotions.
- Pretend to be another person or a member of our team, or evade a mute or ban.
- Post material you do not have the right to share. See our copyright policy.
How moderation works
Comments are reviewed before they appear. Moderators may remove any comment or message, mute a user for a period of time, or ban them from the chatroom or the site. The chatroom also slows down very fast or repeated posting automatically. Decisions are made to keep the community pleasant and are at our discretion.
Reporting a problem
If you see something that breaks these guidelines, email contact@wewillexplain.com with a link or the name and time of the message, and we will look into it.
